Carol Carkin, Co-Pastor
Carol Carkin is a native Charlottean who finds life in Concord refreshing. She is entering her twelfth year of full time ministry. She celebrates the generosity and innovative spirit of the people of Central. She is passionate about leading us in seeking the welfare of our community and deepening our connection to God and one another. Sharing the transformative power of the love of God made plain in Jesus is at the heart of her calling.
She met her husband, Jesse, while attending Roanoke College in Jesse’s hometown. Drawn to his love of God and family and his passion as an artist the couple married while Carol was in seminary at Duke. Jesse was a jeweler for several years and is now a General Manager for Bruegger’s Bagels. He is about to self publish a children’s book of poems that he has written and illustrated.
They have a seven year old son, Isaiah, whose name came from the scripture Carol preached on as an associate after learning that he had a dangerous cyst in his brain at his first ultrasound. The church surrounded the couple and prayed for healing while Carol prayed to be the mother Isaiah needed her to be. Right before he was born, the cyst disappeared. The miracle God bestowed is humbling.
Carol enjoys family meals, reading, keeping up with friends, a good cup of tea, being silly with the people on her street, and getaways at Calling Creek in Lenoir. She is engaged in ministry beyond the local church through the Board of Ordained Ministry, the Annual Conference Worship Team and the District Committee on Ordained Ministry.
