In 2002, Reta left her career as a successful Human Resources Director to attend seminary at Duke University Divinity School. In May 2005, Reta graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Duke and was appointed to serve at Central as her first appointment.Reta describes her call into ordained ministry as a “relentless restlessness.” When Reta graduated in 2005, God left no doubt that her calling was into ministry in the local church. During her tenure at Central, Reta has focused much work and energy on adult spiritual formation and Christian education. Some of her accomplishments include: an annual women’s retreat, formation and oversight of hospitality, and an exciting new Sunday morning group called Central Café. Reta is married to Dr. Todd Steck, professor of Biology at UNC Charlotte. Todd is also involved in life at Central. Todd serves as coordinator for Central’s ministry to the homeless at the Samaritan House. Todd is well-known in the congregation as the primary (and yummy!) bread baker for Holy Communion. Reta and Todd do not have two-legged children but have several four-legged children: a cat, Tess, and a dog, Kasey. |
