Habitat

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization.  They welcome all people to join together to build simple, decent, affordable, houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter.

Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 125,000 houses in more than 80 countries, including some 45,000 houses across the United States.  Habitat houses are purchased by the homeowner families. Three factors make Habitat houses affordable to low-income people worldwide:  1) Houses are sold at no profit, with no interest charged on the mortgage.  2) Homeowners and volunteers build the houses under trained supervision.    3) Individuals, corporations, faith groups and others provide financial support.

As a part of the Jimmy Carter Work Project, Central United Methodist Church fully funding and built their first Habitat Cabarrus house.  Central UMC has been involved and has taken the leadership role for many years with the annual Methodist builds.  Our congregation was very excited about the opportunity to serve our community and a family in need.  We worked together to build a home while building hope for our brothers and sisters in need.  The house dedication was held on Sunday, July 20th with about 100 people in attendance.  The children from the Vacation Bible School collected money all week during VBS and blessed Terry & Donna White with a new microwave for their new home.
