In light of the recent vote at the General Conference meeting of the United Methodist Church in February of 2019 and in response to their proposed legislation with regards to the LGBTQ+ community, we, the Administrative Board of Central United Methodist Church feel called to publish the following statement:
Central United Methodist Church is a congregation built on unconditional love and connectedness. We celebrate our diversity and the richness it brings to fellowship. We are intentional about inclusion and fully embrace all of God’s children. As leaders at Central, we are diverse in our own beliefs – a mix of traditionalists, centrists, and progressives – yet we are united in the certainty that our church is Christ’s church and everyone is welcome here.
We, the members of the Administrative Board do not purport to speak for every individual member of our congregation. This statement is meant to reaffirm the long-held tradition of inclusion and open-mindedness that has made Central United Methodist Church a steadfast bulkhead against intolerance.
